New signs could make Rugby town centre easier to explore

Rugby Borough Council’s cabinet will consider the proposals on Tuesday (8 September). The new system would make it easier for residents and visitors to find key places and move confidently around the town centre.

Existing signs would be replaced with a clear and consistent network of signage covering the whole town centre, guiding people throughout their journey.

The designs would use Rugby’s new Place Brand, while reflecting Rugby’s character and heritage. Clear information and accessible features would also help more people navigate the centre.

By encouraging people to explore different areas and spend longer in the town, the project aims to support local shops, businesses and attractions.

Cllr Louise Robinson, leader of Rugby Borough Council, said: “We want Rugby town centre to be welcoming, easy to explore and a place where people choose to spend their time.

“Clear and consistent signs might sound like a simple change, but they can make a real difference. They can help people discover more of the town, connect our key places and give residents and visitors greater confidence when finding their way around.

“This proposal is another positive step in our wider work to bring new life to the town centre.”

Cllr Jerry Roodhouse, deputy leader of Rugby Borough Council, said: “This would be a practical investment in the future of Rugby town centre.

“A complete network would guide people from one place to the next, helping them reach shops, businesses, attractions and public spaces across the whole centre.

“It would also create a stronger sense of place, with signs designed to complement Rugby’s history and give the town centre a clear and consistent identity.”

If Cabinet supports the proposals, it will recommend that Council approves progressing the wayfinding scheme to the procurement stage.
