Consultation on proposed Council Tax Reduction Scheme

The council is proposing to make changes to the Council Tax Reduction Scheme.

The effect of the changes will be:

• a simpler scheme to apply for and administer;
• fewer changes to a household's entitlement through the year;
• an increase in the maximum support available, from 85 per cent of a bill to 100 per cent.

Modelling shows that around 84 per cent of claimants will be better off, 5 per cent will be worse off and 11 per cent will see no change. Exceptional hardship payments will be available for households who will be worse off, should they need it.
