Rugby Borough Council is committed to supporting tenants who experience or witness hate crime. Hate crime is any criminal offence that is perceived to be motivated by hostility or prejudice towards a person’s race, religion, sexual orientation, transgender identity, or disability. These characteristics are legally protected under the Equality Act 2010.

Hate crimes can take many forms, including verbal abuse, threats, harassment, physical assault, damage to property, and online abuse. If you or someone you know is affected, help is available.

Reporting Hate Crime

It is important to report all incidents of hate crime, even if they seem minor, so that action can be taken and further harm prevented.

To the police:

  • In an emergency, always call 999
  • For non-emergencies, dial 101
  • Report online via

True Vision – A UK online resource developed by the National Police Chiefs’ Council, allowing individuals to report hate crimes without visiting a police station.

Report Hate Now – A Warwickshire-specific reporting portal where

  • On public transport, call 0800 40 50 40 or text 61016
  • To report anonymously, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 11

We take all reports of hate crime seriously and provide confidential support and guidance for those affected. Our Housing Team works closely with Warwickshire Police and specialist services to ensure tenants receive appropriate assistance in a safe and supportive manner.

Our Hate Crime Policy outlines how we assist victims and work with partner organisations to prevent and respond to hate crime. We log all hate crime reports, treat them as high-priority cases of antisocial behaviour, and take a victim-centred approach.
