With a vote on a new Business Improvement District (BID) mandate due to take place in Rugby in February 2026, this is an opportunity for businesses to make sure they can take part.

Starting 1 December Civica Electoral Services, acting on behalf of the council’s Returning Officer, is sending a letter to all businesses in the town centre area to check that their contact details are up-to-date, to make sure that ballot papers are delivered to the most appropriate contact and are not lost.

Dan Green, Returning Officer at Rugby Borough Council, said: “Businesses should keep an eye out for important updates about the forthcoming BID ballot.

"The pre-canvass  ensures that the information held for every town centre business is accurate and up-to-date.

"To make sure you don’t lose your say at the upcoming BID ballots in February, simply follow the instructions sent to you.”

The pre-canvass letters will be sent to the business ratepayer for all businesses within the town centre area, which may not be the address of the business itself.

However, only businesses that will be required to pay a levy under any new BID mandate will receive a ballot paper when voting papers are sent out at the end of January.

Businesses that don’t receive a pre-canvass letter but believe they should can contact business@rugby.gov.uk.
