We assess every report on a case-by-case basis.

My neighbour’s car has not moved for weeks. Has it been abandoned?

Not necessarily. A vehicle can be legally parked in the same location for a long period, providing it's taxed, roadworthy and not causing an obstruction.

The vehicle's not taxed. Will the council remove it immediately?

This depends on the circumstances and ownership of the land. Officers may need to make further enquiries before deciding what action, if any, can be taken.

How long will it take for the council to investigate?

Timescales can vary depending on the circumstances of each report. We assess and investigate as quickly as reasonably practicable.

The council may provide updates when possible, although in some cases there may be limitations on the information we can share (e.g. the owner of the vehicle cannot be shared due to data protection laws.
