Exotic, dangerous or wild animal licence

If you want to keep a dangerous wild animal, you need to have an exotic, dangerous or wild animal licence before purchasing the animal.

We advise all prospective applicants to contact the council's licensing team before completing a licence application.

The Dangerous Wild Animals Act 1976 regulates the keeping of dangerous wild animals. Animals listed in the act include:

  • wild boar
  • emu
  • ostrich
  • venomous snakes
  • capuchin monkeys

Fee

Exotic, dangerous or wild animal licence cost £315. The licence must be renewed annually and expires a year from the date the licence was issued.
