Asbestos was used in building materials from the 1950s to the 1980s as a fire-proof and insulation material.

When left in place, asbestos poses little risk to tenants.

But if disturbed - during maintenance or refurbishment - the asbestos fibres can present a risk to your health.

Please note, new materials fitted to your home after 2000 do not contain asbestos.

How to reduce the risks

  • Do not repair or remove materials which you believe may contain asbestos
  • Do not cut, break, saw, drill or sand materials which you believe may contain asbestos

If you're worried about asbestos in your council home, contact us immediately on (01788) 533533 or email repairs@rugby.gov.uk

We'll arrange to either make the asbestos safe or have it professionally removed.
