Community safety
Making Rugby the safest place to be
All of us would like to live in a place free from crime and anti-social behaviour. A place where we feel safe out walking the streets day or night, and a place where we feel that the families, property and possessions we leave behind are secure.
The Borough of Rugby can be that place, provided that we all work together to take a stand against crime and disorder.
The
Crime and Disorder Act 1998 recognised that the police could not tackle crime single-handedly, and it placed a statutory duty upon local councils to work with local police forces to:
- Improve community safety by tackling the underlying causes of crime and disorder; and
- Take action to ensure that community safety is considered in the planning and delivery of services.
The Police Reform Act 2002 brought in the Fire Service as a statutory partner from April 2003, and Primary Care Trusts became statutory partners in April 2004 to develop a joint approach to combating crime, disorder and drugs.
What is Rugby Borough Council doing to tackle crime and disorder?
