Conservation areas

Conservation areas protect areas of special architectural or historical interest.

Rugby currently has 19 conservation areas, where the council has extra powers to control development.

You should always check with the council's development control team before carrying out work to a property in a conservation area.

Once the council has designated a conservation area, it must publish a character appraisal identifying the reasons why the area has been given conservation area status and offering guidance on future development within the area.
