Parts Unknown explores the fragmentation and erosion of our coasts, and their significance as places where land and sea jostle for authority. These are places on the edges of maps, where early cartographers traced the shape of their coastline from experience and observation, often mixing this with their imagination and memory of the place they were drawing. Creating new, yet familiar maps, Parts Unknown depicts the imagined landscape of the south coast, and like the edges of maps, expose places at the margins of memory, history, and myth.

Ahrens is an artist, writer and researcher living in the UK.
