Art Gallery

Rugby Art Gallery is the home of The Rugby Collection, a renowned collection of 20th century and Contemporary British Art. The Collection contains over 170 artworks in a variety of media from painting and prints to drawing and video, including works by L.S Lowry, Paula Rego, Stanley Spencer and Bridget Riley. A selection of works are displayed each spring. There is also a continually changing programme of contemporary art exhibitions. 

With our ever-changing exhibition programme comes a tailor-made teacher’s pack to help you link the exhibition to your current projects and curriculum. Many exhibitions will also have an artist-led workshop available to book based around the key features in the show. The gallery provides many opportunities to explore pattern, colour, portraits and much more.


Schools art

Draw, Draw, Draw KS 1-4

A two-hour workshop to explore the current exhibition and improve your students’ drawing skills. Children can try a range of short creative tasks such as drawing to music, flow of the lines, portraiture and much more. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop basic techniques in a fun and creative environment led by our experienced staff.

Curriculum Links

  • Students will produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences.
  • Practice in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques.
  • Helps to build knowledge about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms. 

This workshop costs £102 per class for a two hour session. Maximum of 2 classes


The Sketch Book Journey Workshop  KS 1-4

A two hour interactive workshop to explore the current exhibition using a sketch book. Learn how a sketchbook can help you expand ideas and practice techniques such as drawing, collage and painting. View real artist’s sketchbooks and see how different people use them in different ways. Curriculum Links •   Students will create sketch books to record their observations and use them to review and revisit ideas. •   Students will evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design. •   Helps in building self-esteem by sharing opinions and explaining views on the artwork.

Art in the Park Workshop KS 1&2

Our educational team will lead students on an engaging tour of the art trail around Rugby. They will learn about the social history that inspired the public art in the town. In Caldecott Park students will then explore the colour and texture of nature and using the inspiration from the art trail will create artworks using natural materials they have collected in the park.  Curriculum Links •   Students will practice a range of art and design techniques in using colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form and space. •   Helps to build confidence and resilience in learning outside of the classroom. •   Students will learn about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms.

This workshop costs £120 per class for a two hour session. Maximum of 2 classes
