Don't let a bad meal spoil your Valentine's day
Rugby Borough Council is suggesting residents check restaurant food hygiene ratings before booking tables this Valentine’s day to avoid food-related dating disasters.
It is hard to tell a restaurant's hygiene standards by how it looks or by its romantic ambiance, so the best way to be sure is to check the score on the door through the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme.
The rating is determined by Rugby Borough Council's food safety officers and scores range from zero to five - with five being very good.
And the rating is easy to check with a section of Rugby Borough Council's free App for iPhone and Android dedicated to the scheme. The App can be searched for individual pubs, restaurants and cafes, or nearby venues can be shown on a map.
Cllr Derek Poole, Rugby Borough Council portfolio holder for regulation and safety, said:
No-one wants the most romantic day of the year to be spoilt with a poorly tummy as a result of poor food hygiene.
"Rugby Borough Council officers inspect food premises year-round to keep our residents safe, so it is quick and easy to check your chosen restaurant before you go."
The Rugby Borough Council App can also be used to check your next bin collection day. It can be downloaded free from www.rugby.gov.uk/app .
