Information for private sector landlords

Landlords who rent out accommodation have a responsibility to ensure rented properties present no hazards which could pose a significant threat to the health and safety of the occupier or visitors.

Generally, the landlord has responsibility for:

  • the structure of the property
  • the installations within the property (eg water, gas and electricity, sanitation, drainage, heating)
