How to pay your council tax
You can pay by the following methods. Your payments must be received by the due dates on your bill to avoid us taking action against you.
Pay by Direct Debit
You can set up a direct debit to pay your council tax by calling us on (01788) 533488 during normal office hours. You will need your council tax customer reference number (printed at the top of your council tax bill or available when you log into your online council tax account), your bank's sort code and your bank account number. You can pay monthly on either 1, 12, 19 or 26 of the month or if you prefer, you can pay weekly, fortnightly or 4-weekly with these payments being requested on a Monday.
You do not need to set up a new Direct Debit every time you get a bill - we will update the payment for you. Your bill will tell you if you have a Direct Debit, and how much we will take each month.
If your Direct Debit payment fails you can pay using one of the other payment methods shown on this page. If you miss the payment completely we will recalculate your payments and send you a new bill.
We accept all major credit/debit cards except for American Express and Diners cards. You can make a payment by using our 24 hour secure payment site.
In order to pay online, you'll need your council tax reference number. Your reference number can be found at the top of your council tax bill or by logging into your online council tax account.
Pay by our 24 hour automated telephone line
Telephone 01788 533463. You will need your council tax customer reference number (your reference number can be found at the top of your council tax bill or by logging into your online council tax account). If you do not have your reference number, please contact the council tax team.
