Description
This site is over ten acres (4 hectares) in size, and was bought by the Council in 1929 for £1,493 to provide a recreation ground for Hillmorton. It is often also known as Featherbed Lane Recreation Ground.
The mound area is the site of an old tumulus - a medieval burial ground. A mill was later built on the site from which comes the name of the nearby street, Millfields Avenue.
The recreation ground was refurbished in 2005 including footpaths, signage, new fencing and the entrance gates sculpture. A lot of community planting also took place through work with local schools, educating children about how to improve and look after the environment around them.
The site is mainly used for informal recreational activities, with a children's play area, skate/BMX park and other youth facilities.
The recreation ground is a designated Queen Elizabeth II Field.
