Electoral registration

The register of electors

View pages in this section

image The register of electors is a list of everyone in the borough who is eligible to vote.

Between August and October every year the annual canvass takes place and during this period a registration form is sent to every property in the borough.

Completion of this form is compulsory and failure to register is a criminal offence.

This annual canvass is conducted based on where you are living on 15 October each year. Once this information is collected we publish a revised version of the register of electors by 1 December each year and you are only entitled to vote if your name appears on this register.

Rolling registration

Following changes to electoral registration regulations and practices, the rolling registration of electors is now in place.

This means that if you change address we can send you the necessary form straight away to transfer your vote to your new address.

Amendments can also be made if you change your name, become eligible to vote for the first time or if our existing records are wrong.

Only one person can apply per form and you must sign your own form, someone else cannot do it for you.
