Town Hall's main reception

Brighter, quicker and more accessible - Rugby Borough Council's new reception area is designed to meet everyone's needs.

Starting in November, the Town Hall's main reception is to undergo a massive refurbishment project.

Council staff have consulted with a number of community groups to come up with a design that meets people's needs.  The new design will be fully  Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) compliant. This means that signs will be easily read, displays will be at a suitable height for people with mobility problems and the colour scheme will be appropriate for blind and partially sighted people.

The new design should also be better laid out for people wanting to come to the Town Hall and will allow us to provide additional services in partnership with Warwickshire County Council including the blue badge scheme and some highways services.

Work is due to take between 10 and 12 weeks, but the reception will remain open throughout the period, meaning people who need to use the Town Hall will not have to go elsewhere.

Opening Times

At the moment, the reception is open between 9am and 5pm Mondays to Fridays, but the council is also in the process of consulting people on the most convenient hours for them.

This could include opening earlier or later, or even opening on Saturday mornings.

Councillor David Wright, Rugby Borough Council portfolio holder for resources, said: "We are sure that once the work has finished customers will find our reception area a lot easier to use.

"At the moment the reception is tired and dated and does not meet modern standards.  The work we have planned is set to change all that.

"However, as we are keeping the reception area open throughout the scheduled works we are anticipating some noise disruptions, although our contractors have assured us this will be kept to a minimum. So we would ask our customers to bear with us during this time."

Councillor Heather Timms, Warwickshire County Council's Portfolio Holder
for Customers, Workforce and Governance, said: "I'm delighted that we're going to have a new one-stop shop in Rugby.

"Warwickshire County Council, working in partnership with the county's district and borough councils, has already supported the development of a number of successful one-stop shops in other parts of the county.

"The opening of a one-stop-shop in Rugby where people can access all public services face-to-face is essential to improving how Warwickshire County Council delivers our services in Rugby borough, alongside Rugby Borough Council."
