Core Strategy - Introduction

Barge on canal

Rugby Borough Council is preparing for the next 20 years of development in the Borough. This document is the first step in creating a new planning strategy for the future of the area. The aim is to provide a proactive and positive approach to managing development.

This process will provide a real opportunity to influence the form of development in the Borough and help to improve the quality of life for those who live and work in our communities. We need your help to produce a framework which will deliver these improvements.

The Core Strategy will set out the long-term spatial vision for the area and the strategic policies required to deliver that vision. Over the next three years the Local Development framework (LDF) will eventually replace the Adopted Local Plan.

What stage is the Core Strategy at in Rugby?

On 8th January 2010 the Council submitted the Core Strategy to the Secretary of State for Public Examination of the 'soundness' of the plan. The submission documents also include: the Sustainability Appraisal, the Statement of Community Involvement, the Statement of Consultation and Summary of Main Issues, all representations received during the Proposed Submission and Focused Changes representation period and all evidence base documents.

All submission documents are available to view and download in the Submission Documents section below. Copies will also be available for inspection during normal opening hours at Rugby Borough Council offices, Rugby Library and Dunchurch, Wolston and Binley Woods libraries.
