About the Planning Service

There are five divisions within the Planning Service:

  1. Development Control - deals with the processing of planning applications, taking account of Borough policies and briefs, government guidance and the individual merits of each scheme, in order to control development in the Borough in the public interest.   2. Planning Enforcement - Local Councils enforce legislation to protect the individual and the community as a whole. Enforcement Services carry out a range of activities with the aim of achieving this and compliance with legislation by individuals and businesses.   3. Forward Planning - is responsible for the Adopted Local Plan, which provides policies to guide development in the Borough. The Forward Planning Team are also responsible for the production of the new Local Development Framework which will replace the Local Plan and will guide the next twenty years of development in the Borough.   4. Conservation and Environment - deals with both the built and natural environment we aim to monitor and promote good practise in terms of design and protection of the environment. View more information of Conservation and Environment.


  5. Building Control - ensures that building works comply with the health, safety, energy conservation and access for the disabled requirements, as laid down in the Building Regulations and Building Acts. To view more information on Building Control
