Work has started to build a new crematorium and cemetery in Rugby.
Plans for the Rainsbrook Crematorium, a joint project funded by Rugby Borough Council and Daventry District Council, were drawn up after a study found burial space in the borough was set to run out within the next three to five years, with approximately 70 per cent of funerals being cremations.
The location of the new crematorium and cemetery lies off Ashlawn Road, and preliminary work started on site in the spring. The foundations for the crematorium building were dug in June, and building work has now started in earnest.
The project includes the crematorium, a cemetery funded by Rugby Borough Council, access driveways and extensive landscaping.
Rainsbrook Crematorium and Cemetery has been scheduled to open in spring 2014.
